Setantabet Sportsbook Review
SetantaBet is a part of the Setanta Sports Group which sent its first broadcast in 1990.
The company itself was not officially founded until 1992 and has since expanded operations to include the USA, Canada, Ireland, Australia and parts of Africa. Its presence in Ireland wherein it operates channels Setanta 1 and Setanta Ireland has extensive sporting coverage including the Premier League, the Champions League, Formula 1 action and much more, is what led to the establishment of SetantaBet.
It launched in partnership with JenningsBet who powers its platform. It’s very focussed on the UK and Ireland markets and sponsored Ireland’s premier racing event the Punchestown Festival in 2012. It also sponsored Back Page Football for a spell in the same year.
With a platform powered by JenningsBet the betting markets offered are the same which means a reasonable coverage of sports but limited markets within many of them. In addition there’s a major focus on football with the Quick Picks section dominated by various competitions in the world’s number one sport.
Rare for a bookie in this day and age Setantabet does not include inplay betting amongst its main sections. This shows that it does not prioritise live betting, at least not yet, though it does include a reasonable number of markets across different sports.
It does include a Last Minute Bets section which shows you how many minutes are left of all of the live contests it’s offering.
Usability of the site
The site itself is extremely simple with only four key sections along the main navigation bar. This signifies its a site for the casual gambler which, on further inspection, is revealed to be an accurate and fair assumption.
As mentioned it’s run on the same platform as that of Jenningsbet meaning the same level of customer support is available, by phone, email and live chat. It is a simplified version of the Jenningsbet offering though with its yellow and black scheme it’s less garish.
There are no flashy graphics, video content, virtual sports offered nor live streaming. This will be a drawback for some, indeed many bettors, even casual bettors, have come to expect such things. More pressingly the lack of such content does not ensure excellent load times.
At the time of writing there is no Setantabet sports betting app for either iOS or Android. The mobile offering is notably slicker than its desktop compadre and is a basic but fast to use product.
Major payment providers are catered for except Paypal.
There’s a keen focus on the UK and Ireland markets with football hugely represented on the site, as well as horseracing. It’s aimed at casual gamblers with a lack of indepth markets and a basic site which will put off some, but be more than enough for others.
It needs to improve its focus on live betting in terms of site navigation, and live streaming is a feature on too many competitiors’ sites for it not to be included. Virtual sports too is a notable absence, and an app is something bookmakers need to offer their users the best experience. Customer support is adequate, and the mobile web experience is strong.
